551400_10152778841715035_552931637_nToday we hear many opinions and thoughts about all kinds of things that people think about. Everybody has an idea or belief on everything. This is just as true about LEADERSHIP also.

Today, I want to give you FOUR  myths about LEADERSHIP that people tend to believe:

1.   If I am not on TOP, I can’t LEAD. It is important to understand that LEADERSHIP is not POSITION, it is INFLUENCE.

2.   When I get to the TOP, then I will learn to LEAD. You will be tomorrow what you are preparing for today.

3.   If I were on TOP of the company, then everyone would follow me. If people don’t or won’t follow you now, they won’t follow you then either.

4.   When I get to the TOP, I will be able to do ANYTHING. The truth is the higher you go in LEADERSHIP the less options you have.

It is so important to understand that LEADERSHIP IS INFLUENCE not POSITION. You can lead from anywhere in the organization, TOP OR BOTTOM.

Rockefeller said, “Good leadership consists of showing average people how to do the work of superior people.” In true life situations there are not many people who will pay the price to really become a GOOD LEADER. There are a lot of people who want to rise to the top and have the position and be the leader, but experience has taught me that only a few will really apply themselves and even begin to reach their potential.

A lot of people want good things to happen in their life. Many people are looking for a better life with more money and more influence, but once again I have learned that most people want things to happen in their life, but only a small number of people can actually MAKE THINGS HAPPEN. The man or woman who can actually MAKE THINGS HAPPEN can usually write their own ticket. Every employer, every business owner is looking for a man or woman who really can make something HAPPEN. They are far and few between. Here’s the point, most people can make it happen, but also true most people won’t pay the price to cause it to happen. There is a price to pay for LEADERSHIP SUCCESS. Are you willing to pay the price? Take inventory of your life. How is what you are doing working for you?


ImageLeadership is based on the “LAW OF INFLUENCE.” In fact LEADERSHIP is nothing more and nothing less than INFLUENCE. Many people think that leadership is having a “Position” or a “Title” or maybe “Money and Power.”  These things are not LEADERSHIP. You can have all those things and still not be a LEADER. The person with INFLUENCE is the real LEADER.

There are three questions that all followers will ask of a LEADER:

1.  Do you care for me?

2.  Can you help me?

3.  Can I TRUST YOU?

A real leader will be asked these three questions and until he can answer them he does not qualify to be the LEADER. A leader must care for others at least as much as he cares for himself. That takes a very big person indeed. Next, do you have the knowledge and the know how to help other people with their struggle in life? Can you really help them have a better life? And last, can you be trusted, with integrity, character and a good testimony  from those around you? THIS IS WHAT A LEADER  IS ALL ABOUT.

The Position Myth

Are you a leader? Have you got the position that says, “You are a Leader or you are the Leader.” If you have a position as a leader in your company, how did you get that place of being the leader. Were you given the position or did you work your way to the top of the organization. Leadership is not in your position it is in your influence. If you have INFLUENCE you are a LEADER. You can be a leader and not have any INFLUENCE. Every person who has influence is a LEADER no matter what work they do. A housewife, a babysitter, a teacher, no matter what, if you have influence you are letting your position work with other people and you are INFLUENCING THEM. Now we just have to make sure we are influencing them in a good positive way. You can change your WORLD and the WORLD OF other people, by using your INFLUENCE TO MAKE THEIR LIVES BETTER. DO WHAT YOU CAN, WHEN YOU CAN and don’t worry about who gets the credit.





Many people think that leadecrafting-a-green-manifesto-1rship is a position they get or arrive at in life. They think this makes them a leader. Leadership is not a position, it cannot be given to a person by gift or hire. Harold S. Geneen says, “Leadership is practiced not so much in words as in attitude and in actions.” Many times people work at a job, maybe in a church or a corporation or some other employment; they say, ” One day I will work my way up to supervisor or manager and then I will be a leader.

Why not start out the job being a leader, not by getting a position but by having influence with the people that you work with around you. Leadership is not a position but it is having influence with people. You see at any level in an organization you can start out with influence. It’s the way you act, the way you work, the way you handle yourself. You influence people by having the best attitude, by having a spirit of working together with others. You have all heard the saying that a dad says to his son when he goes out to play. “Son play well with the other kids.” Leadership is being on the TEAM AND BEING THE BEST TEAM MEMBER in the group.

You can do this, but it does take a concerted effort and you must do it intentional. It begins with having the best ATTITUDE and the having the best ACTION to go along with the ATTITUDE. If you have the attitude to be a great leader, you can do this and show a great attitude. BE YOUR BEST!!
